  Man creates himself.

  Man changes the world.

No man can live forever.

Men are cleverer than monkeys.

Man cannot live without water.

All men must have water to live.

Man is not always stronger than woman.

A woman does not envy a man for his fighting courage, nor a man envys a woman for her beauty.

Generally speaking, women live longer than men.

A: There is a man waiting for you. B: Where is the man?

A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. They were talking loudly. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily.

  Don’t cry — be a man!

Play the man! Play the woman!

He is only half a man!

He is a man of will.

He is a man of letters.

He is a man of ambition.

He is an old woman.

He is a woman in tenderness.

There was little of the woman in her.

She is a woman of letters.

Women of both sexes in the Parliament made a big noise against the bill.

She is a freshman at college.

She is the greatest author of the age.

She is the greatest authoress of the age.

My cook has a young man.

They are man and wife.

He has worked for the firm, man and boy, for thirty years.

  Hurry up, man.

  Nonsense, man!

  Shut up, woman!

He is the very man for the job.

If you need a driver, I’m your man.

Are you man enough for this dangerous job?

Are you enough of a man for this dangerous job?

⑨ the man in the street和the man on the street表示“普通人,老百姓”,前者是英国英语,后者是美国英语:

This kind of music doesn’t appeal to the man in the street.

He spoke as a man, not merely as soldier.

The staff speaks as one man on this issue.

  ⑪ if a man表示“人数足有”;to a man表示“所有人,无一例外”;to the last man表示“无一例外,直到最后一人”:

The enemy is two hundred strong, if a man.

The whole company, to a man, was engaged in the battle.

We shall defend the city to the last man.

He is a man doctor.

  They are men doctors.

This is an apple tree.

  These are apple trees.
